At Furness Nature, we recognise that the natural world is both a classroom and a teacher, that nature supports wellbeing, fosters reflection, and nurtures connection to our environment and community.
Furness Nature services are grounded in experiential learning and self-directed exploration, allowing young people to engage with the natural world through play, curiosity, and purposeful activity.
Through time spent in nature, learners build resilience, confidence, and a deep sense of belonging to place and people — developing skills and understanding that reach far beyond the classroom.

Forest School Programmes
At Forest School, every young person arrives with their own mix of needs, abilities and learning preferences, all of which can be met and nurtured in the woodland environment. Furness Nature offers full-day programmes for all ages throughout the year, creating a flexible learning experience where each child can engage in ways that feel natural and meaningful.
Through exploration, play and hands-on activities, young people build confidence, resilience and independence, while also finding space for movement, reflection and collaboration. The holistic nature of Forest School allows individual needs to be supported within a shared group experience.
All programmes follow the Forest School Association’s six principles.
Forest School: Home Education Groups
Furness Nature offers Forest School programmes for home educating families, providing regular opportunities for young people to learn, explore, and grow through nature-based experiences.
Established home education groups can commission a dedicated Forest School programme for their learners. Sessions can be tailored to the group’s needs, creating a rich outdoor learning experience that supports curiosity, confidence, and connection with nature.
We also run open Home Education Forest School groups, where individual families can book places on a programme organised by Furness Nature. These programmes run when sufficient interest is gathered to create a viable group, allowing young people to benefit from a consistent, supportive woodland community.

Woodland Experince Day
Are you looking for meaningful ways to enrich your curriculum, support the well-being of young people or enjoy a local adventure in nature? Our Woodland Experience Day offers a flexible, immersive outdoor experience shaped around the needs of your young people.
Led by experienced Forest School Leaders, each day brings together exploration, creativity and hands-on learning through Forest School-inspired activities, crafts and games. We work with you to design a bespoke experience that connects with your curriculum themes, nurtures group relationships and makes the most of the changing seasons and woodland setting, creating a memorable and purposeful day for every child.
Woodland Nurture Interventions
Many young people need additional support to re-engage with learning, rebuild confidence or develop their social and emotional skills. Our Woodland Intervention Programmes offer a flexible, nature-based approach that meets each young person where they are and provides space for meaningful growth.
Through assessment and collaborative planning with the young person and their school, we identify strengths, challenges and goals, then design a programme that supports engagement and motivation. Drawing on holistic, young person-centred practice, alongside elements of Self-Determination Theory and Forest School principles, sessions focus on wellbeing, emotional development and therapeutic, experiential learning in the woodland environment.
Programmes can be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups of up to six participants.
Rewild the Child Forest School
For children struggling with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, low confidence and motivation, time in nature can offer a much-needed change of pace and place. The RtC Forest School Programme provides young people with the chance to come together with others from local schools and take part in a supportive, year-round Forest School experience.
Schools can book places for individual pupils, making it an ideal option for children who would benefit from small-group connection, supported challenge and meaningful, nature-based learning. Suitable for those with an Education, Health and Care Plan. Through play, exploration and shared discovery, children develop the skills and knowledge to become holistically stronger and resilient.
The programme follows the Forest School Association’s core principles, ensuring an authentic and high-quality Forest School experience for every participant.
Junior Bushcraft
Experiencing a hands-on adventure can help children build confidence, strengthen teamwork and engage more deeply with their learning. Our Junior Bushcraft Courses provide an exciting opportunity for young people to step outdoors, develop practical skills and discover their own sense of capability.
Fire lighting, shelter building and green woodwork are just some of the activities available, each designed to spark curiosity and connect with elements of the national curriculum. Alongside the practical learning, bushcraft offers valuable opportunities for communication, cooperation and leadership, supporting personal and social growth through meaningful, memorable experiences.
